OrthoticsOrthotics are devices used to help many different problems or specifically for pain related to the foot. These problems can be from the simplest of foot pains to complicated changes affecting the knees, hips and/or the spine. Pain may not be the only indication for the need for orthotics, as biomechanical efficiency and control can also be helped with orthotics. Custom orthotics are individually made to fit and correct very specific individual problems and therefore cater to individual needs. Some common indications for an assessment and possible need for custom orthotics are:* Fatigue and constant foot pain * Consistent morning foot pain and sensitivity * Chronic ankle sprains * Constant or chronic heel, knee, hips or back pain. * Foot and toe mal-alignment (eg. bunions) Orthotic fitting requires attention to many details of reported symptoms combined with biomechanical analysis of stance, gait and load support. Proper analysis, by the physiotherapist, of foot positioning and mechanics combined with knee, hip and spinal movements provide information related to fitting the appropriate mechanical needs of the individual. A cast would then be made of the feet and the impressions sent off to a laboratory. The basic orthotics are made and specific adjustments implemented from the prescription sent by the physiotherapist. Fitting and guidelines for proper break in periods will be provided and any complications or need for adjustments will be followed up to ensure the best possible fit. Analysis and casting here at seva is provided by a registered physiotherapist with an extensive background in biomechanics related to sport, ergonomics and recreational activities. Anyone can benefit from some form of foot support or padding but custom orthotics are specialized for specific corrective needs related to malalignment problems. Highly active people who are on their feet whether by trade or by recreational activities, especially sports, may need greater control, support or specialized placement of cushioning to provide proper mechanical control. This specialized support and control can correct or alleviate specific biomechanical problems. Making An Appointment We accept appointments from 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday.
